Catproofing with trees near fences
If you have a tree within 80cm of your fence, you will need to work around it, using Purrfect Fence.
Fortunately, this isn’t usually difficult, but the approach you take will depend on the location of the tree. See below for some tips.
Small tree next to fence
If you have a small tree (trunk less than 20cm in diameter) that is very close to, or touching your fence, cut the bottom edge of the mesh to fit around the trunk, as shown in this top view.
Attach the mesh to the trunk and staple it to the fence, ensuring there is no gap large enough for your cat to squeeze between the mesh and the fence.

Small tree near a fence
A small tree that is 10-30cm from the fence should be surrounded by banding, then the poly mesh should be cut and patched around the tree banding.
The blue dotted line in this top view shows where the fencing is cut and the grey area is where a poly mesh ‘patch’ joins the mesh together. (This approach was used in the photo at the top of this page.)
Large tree near a fence
Medium to large trees (trees with diameters greater than 22cm) within 80cm of a fence, or small trees 30-80cm from a fence will need to have the Purrfect Fence system worked around the tree.
This can be done by “walking” the mesh around the tree trunk with two or more Purrfect Fence arms attached to the tree. It is very important that the bottom edge of the mesh fence is secured to the tree and that all gaps are covered with mesh between the tree and the fence. This may require patching around or behind the tree.

Multiple trees near a fence
Use the Purrfect Fence Freestanding System to “detour” your fence around the tree(s).
You may wish to include a Purrfect Fence gate so that you can get to the trees for pruning, etc.
